Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, and said the agreement was «not binding on the Palestinian people.» Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, called it «dangerous and synonymous with a free reward for the Israeli occupation for its crimes and violations at the expense of the Palestinian people.» As he has said many times in recent days, Mr. Trump has predicted that the next step would be to reach a quick deal with Iran to reduce its nuclear deal if re-elected, when there was no sign that such a reconciliation was really imminent. «If I win the election,» he says, «I will have an agreement with Iran within 30 days.» The News International reported that Pakistan, after consultation and consideration of the pros and cons of the evolution of Pakistan`s national interests, would take a position on Israel`s water-of-life agreement. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi avoided speaking on the sensitive issue. «This is a dark day in the history of Palestine,» Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said in an interview shortly before the Palestinian ambassador to the UAE was removed in protest. «This agreement is a total abandonment of the Arab consensus. The Palestinian people did not allow anyone to make concessions to Israel in exchange for anything. However, questions remain about the importance of the agreements. Even in Israel, where the agreements have been widely respected, there are fears that they could lead to U.S. sales of sophisticated weapons to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, potentially disrupting Israel`s qualitative military advance in the region.
But the agreement triggered an immediate counter-reaction in the region of opposing parts of the ideological spectrum. At least some Israeli settlers and their political allies were disappointed that Mr. Netanyahu abandoned his plan to claim west Bank sovereignty, while the Palestinians felt abandoned by an Arab nation that, even without the threat of annexation, locked them in an unsustainable status quo. The Tunisian Assembly of Representatives of the Tunisian People criticized the agreement and said it was in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Many people protested outside the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Tunis, people burned Israeli flags and photos of UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while supporting the Palestinian cause for independence. Tunisian President Kais Saied then said that Tunisia was not interfering in the agreement and would not oppose, but would support the Palestinians. Right.
